Nurse accused of taking drugs into prison

A nurse was this afternoon taken to court and accused of having taken drugs into the prisons at Corradino.

Jacqueline Dipasquale, from Hamrun, pleaded not guilty to having taken drugs into the prison yesterday and over the past six months.

She was also accused of trafficking in heroin and possession of heroin and cannabis not for her own use, and trying to take the drugs into prison.

She pleaded not guilty.

In requesting bail, the defence counsel said the accused was separated and had two children.

Informed sources said the drug was allegedly found during a search of the woman's handbag. Prison officers had been previously suspicious of the woman.

She was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000 and a deposit of €2,000.
