A motorcyclist has appealed for a sense of responsibility and accountability after he was injured in an unusual incident on the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast road at the end of last month.

Peter Valentino said that on November 30, at around 11.30 am, he was driving his motor bike towards St.Julians. A vehicle which was probably a black Vitara was driving slowly on the opposite side of the road trailing a number of silver coloured ribbons.

The ribbons, which must have been 100 feet long, were blown by the wind across the road and into his path.

"Within seconds these ribbons were around my face with the force of a whip. With luck I stayed on the bike, even though the force was huge. The pain was intense and I was unaware of how bad the damage was. I lost my eyesight for a few seconds.

"Then there was a second pull, probably from another ribbon.

"Eventually I managed to free myself from these ribbons and called the police who are still looking for the person responsible."

Mr Valentino said he had to call a doctor and had suffered scarring and bruising to his face.

His glasses were a mess and rubber lining on his helmet was damaged.

He said he hoped the culprit would own up and said such people should realise the consequences of their actions.
