Thank God for the EU and other sponsors for having given BirdLife Malta the means to make such a wonderful discovery. Money well spent, one might say. While Andrè Raine and his friends at BirdLife Malta jump with joy at such news and are given €1 million by the EU and other sponsors, please bear in mind that in Senegal, 183 kilometres away from BirdLife's tagged bird, about a third of the population live below the international poverty line of $1.25 a day. This sad fact makes the money spent on tracking birds around the world seem so very pathetic. Sponsors might wish to check out their priorities before squandering any more of their money on some other useless project.
Incidentally, does anyone know the cost of a satellite tag? If so, how many can one buy with €1 million?
