A man who is currently undergoing a drug rehabilitation programme this morning pleaded not guilty to having stolen €33,000 worth of antiques including silverware and furniture from a residence in San Gwann. The burglary took place on November 23, to the detriment of Maria Louisa Farrugia.

Glenn Vella, 29, was also accused of breaching bail and relapsing.

The prosecution argued against bail, saying the accused could not be trusted because of previous convictions.

Defence counsel Veronique Dalli said that her client had been through a rough time, had a serious drug problem and was seeking help. She also pointed out that all the stolen items had been returned.

The court then granted bail against a personal guarantee of €6,000.
