Back to Neverland this Christmas
A descendant of a master carpenter who, in the beginning of the 20th century, developed the art of performer flying in London's West End, has been engaged by the Malta Amateur Dramatic Club to assist in this year's panto - Peter Panto.
Nick Kirkby's great-grandfather, Joseph, had in fact provided the flying equipment for J.M. Barrie in the original production of Peter Pan in 1904!
The script telling the story of the boy who wouldn't grow up was written by Nanette Brimmer.
Alan Montanaro not only plays the part of the evil Captain Hook but he will also be debuting as panto director. Throughout his career, Mr Montanaro has been involved in over 15 pantomimes whether as scriptwriter, dame or baddy.
The MADC's Playhouse in Sta Venera is a hive of activity with rehearsals taking place every day headed by Mr Montanaro, choreographer Alison White and musical director Paul Abela. Downstairs, the set construction crew is putting the sets together to the designs of Oscar nominee Peter Howitt.
The cast also includes Jean-Pierre Busuttil, who gets to wear the fabulous dame costumes for the second time as Dame Fanny; Katherine Brown, as the swashbuckling Peter Pan; Alexandra Camilleri Warne as Wendy; Luke Farrugia as John; David Chircop as Michael; Nathan Brimmer as Smee; Rachael Tedesco Triccas as Tinkerbell together with Diane Clark, Noel Zarb, Andrew Barberi, Jane Pillow and Renato Dimech and the usual mega-talented all-dancing, all-singing chorus.
Peter Panto will run at the MFCC in Ta' Qali between December 18 and January 3, bar December 24, 25 and January 1. All performances start at 8 p.m. and matinees will be held at 3 p.m. on December 26 and January 3.
Booking is open at MADC's new website www.madc.biz or via ticket hotline 7979MADC (6232).
