Vittoriosa Stars maintained their perfect record in the BOV Division One after crushing neighbours St George's at the Tedesco Stadium yesterday.
As the scoreline shows, Vittoriosa were by far the better side with Clayton Micallef turning in a superb performance.
The Vittoriosa forward was involved in all five goals scored by his team.
For St George's, this was their second successive defeat after they lost to Balzan in their opening match.
Vittoriosa took the lead after just two minutes. Henry Makinwa played a good ball to Beppe Muscat whose drive was blocked by a defender. The loose ball fell to Micallef who rifled home from close range.
The Stars continued to press foward and it was no surprise that they increased their lead on 14 minutes. Leontin Chitescu was too fast for the Saints rearguard as he reached a Micallef cross to beat the stranded Thomas Galea in goal.
St George's response arrived on 20 minutes when Glen Bonello tried his luck from the edge of the area but his shot was bocked by Vittoriosa goalkeeper Henry Bonello.
The Stars made it 3-0 ten minutes from half-time. Micallef reacted quickly to shoot the ball home after Galea failed to hold Johan Spiteri's volley.
After the interval, Vittoriosa wrapped up the points with two more goals in the space of a minute.
On 62 minutes, Micallef passed to Michael Borg Olivier who fired home.
A minute later, Muscat finished off a sweeping Vittoriosa move that involved Borg Olivier, Chitescu and Micallef.
St George's were now dead and buried but they might have pulled a goal back on 70 minutes when Gordon Mallia's chip hit the crossbar. From the rebound, Anthony Ewurum was denied by Bonello.
Twelve minutes from the end, Saints substitute Josef Dalli dribbled past two defenders but received no support and was eventually closed down by veteran defender Jeffrey Chetcuti.
