You might be right in proclaiming yourself as a moaning one but in my opinion certainly not a bright one, as you put it. This is beyond mathematics.Your suggestion would introduce another old fashioned ‘see-saw’ method that draws additional revenue from one channel while reducing another. You ought to realise in this day and age that 1)Prices SHOULD (not saying they are) always reflect the true value the consumer is paying for and not be inflated to ‘rob Peter and pay Paul’ – mostly done during our past ‘Robin Hood’ days 2)Drivers do not use their private cars because they are still paying road tax anyway. They use them irrespective of the fuel and road tax expenses because the public transport leaves too much to be desired.3)There would be no or hardly benefit to the government coffers, so why would you think they go into the hustle and bustle of mastering fictitious prices for fuel to offset losses in road tax? 4)As to the obvious and what we would expect eventually, one fine day some other bright boy in power will come up with the idea to retain fuel prices as established and reinstates road tax anyway! Big deal!

What a big surprise, at first I did not want to believe it . Stop moaning, have you ever heard that that under GONZIP.N. kollox possibli., so why all this fuss, because the fuel went up slightly. Make a big fuss if the prices go down.

If we had an efficient and flexible public transport system, why not. Presently it takes me nearly half an hour to get to work. If I had to use the public transport, I'd say it would take me close to 1.5 hours....

Mr. Eric Biggs is right, this system has been running in Germany for ages and it is fair, you pay according to road usage.

From moaning Malta to moaning Britain. Do you think we can afford such a tax when the vast majority of Maltese citizens are not even making ends meet and when our wages are a misery compared to yours?
As if we are not being taxed more than enough!

I'm right behind you Eric! Now if only we had an efficient mass transportation system like buses, trams, taxis etc........ I would not use my car everyday to go to work.

@L J Sammut A point to note is that you HAVE to keep on putting fuel into horses and donkeys even if when don't use them. Nobody is FORCING you to drive/purchase petroleum products. Try a bit of walking for a change, assuming you still remember how to walk!

Why not follow the example of some of the eu members, their system is no road tax, but higher fuel prices for the people that actually do use the public roads more then others. People who only drive now and then are actually paying more or less according to the vehicle the same road tax as the people who uses their 4 wheels everyday of the week, so whats the alternative NO ROAD tax but higher petrol prices to compensate for the people that uses their vehicles more then others. Its only fair and seems to work perpectly and cuts down unnecessary road congestions. SIMPLE mathematics my friends from a Bright moaning Britain.
