Luckie Gatt was the winner of a national contest for people showing solidarity with those in need, launched earlier this year by the Augustinian Community of Tarxien. The award is named after St Nicholas of Tolentino, an Augustinian saint considered a model of solidarity with people in need.
The contest was held for people aged 15 years and over who were engaged in some activity of solidarity. Fifteen people from different organisations in various fields were nominated for the award.
The prize was awarded at a special event held recently in the presence of distinguished guests including Parliamentary Sec-retary Jason Azzopardi, Tarxien mayor Paul Farrugia and Martin Borg, representative of Banif Bank, the main sponsors of the prize.
Ms Gatt is from Mid-Dlam għad-Dawl, and has been active in the organisation since its inception. She gives lessons in academic subjects, assists victims of crime and visits inmates at the Corradino Corrective Facility.
Ms Gatt was presented with a trophy donated by Mdina Glass and a cash voucher for €500 from Banif Bank.
