Two new wards in which €1,965,800 have been invested were inaugurated at Mount Carmel Hospital this morning by Parliamentary Secretary Mario Galea.

The wards, dedicated to St George Preca and St Bernardetta, will be housing 63 elderly with 29 beds on the upper and 34 beds on the lower floor.

Facilities include two large dining rooms, two atriums, two staff rooms, two nursing stations, a doctor’s room and a room for the consultant, chambermaid units, two treatment rooms, two pantries, two sluice rooms and a sizeable patio.

Several environmental measures were also taken including the installation of large double glazed windows for insulation and to reduce the need for artificial lighting, energy saving bulbs, a power factor correction system and a more efficient air conditioning system.
