Danish police letter 'does not prove anything' - PL
The report referred to by the government this morning in the case of the company given the tender for the new power station was a letter from a police assessor informing the company that one case had been closed and no criminal action would be taken about it, the PL said.
Labour leader Joseph Muscat yesterday presented the auditor general with investigations carried out by a Danish newspaper which concluded that the company had used bribery to win contracts abroad.
Dr Gatt asked the company to explain the situation to the Auditor General, the company denied the allegation and sent the minister a copy of a letter from the Danish police saying that it was unlikely that a criminal offence had been committed.
The PL said in a statement the assessor did not say whether there had been corruption but that there was probably no cause for action under Danish law.
The party noted that although the government advocated the independence of its companies in certain instances, in this case it was the ministry and not Enemalta, which got directly involved in the case.
It also seemed that the minister had appointed himself spokesman for the company when it already had an agent who was receiving a commission of €4 million.
It was clear that the letter sent by the minister yesterday was a coordinated attempt which reflected the government's panic.

@Joe Busuttil
It seems that you are well informed. As a citizen you should go forward to the authorities and inform them of all you know if not for me you are one As we Maltese say "L-iblah taqlalghu ghajnejh jifrah." not only that but you will be doing like Labour paroli si fatti no.

Why don't the faithful (fidili) PN apologists shut up and put their money where their mouths are.? They should band together and pay up the millions spent in commisions. They should also go and live next door to the polluting new extension. And while they are at it they should also refund us who protested against the illegal tax on vat when we bought a car during the last 4 years. As we Maltese say "L-iblah taqlalghu ghajnejh jifrah." I could go on ad nauseam.

This is funny...the investigation of a danish newspaper is more factual than that of the danish police according to Joseph Muscat.

since when are we giving media reports the weighting equivalent to the countries Executive ?
Is a newspaper more supreme than the investigative organs (police and courts) ?
and why these reports were not brought to light earlier ?
the company / companies who lost the bid seem nowhere in all this....if they had any objections, they should have brought them up at adjudication stage and since they are so sure, they would have recouped the objection fee back....the regulations are well known.
all these allegations and media stunts do nothing but baffle the uninformed public - but maybe that's why this is happening after all !

I would eternally be grateful to the PL and its leadership if this contract is somehow broken. First and foremost because spending Euros 200M on an extension which uses heavy fuel oil and which creates tons of toxic waste is bad, for our health and that of the future generations, secondly because I personally am feeling cheated, knowing that taxes that I pay are being squandered on biased intermediaries, whose only role is to get rich on our backs. I think Gov should act wisely here and take the opportunity to change direction for the benefit of all Maltese.

In Malta it's just incredible! Instead of defending "Whistleblowers", we make their lives miserable! It happened several times in recent years and that's why corruption in Malta is the order of the day as no one will stand up and talk. God saves his soul who does!

what is important is not that payments were made in other countries but whether any were made in Malta. Not even the MLP could state that any payments were made in Malta. As far as commissions are concerned, these are the usual method of paying commercial representatives. Ever since its foundation in 1848, the Chamber of Commerce has had a Commission Agents Trade Section infact Commission agents should by law be licenced by the Chamber of Commerce. A lot of fuss has been made over nothing to mislead uninformed persons, all this to gain political milage. This is the politics of dishonesty.
