Papal visit: Curia announces theme, logo competition
The theme chosen for the Papal visit to Malta next April 17 and 18 is a verse from the Acts of the Apostles referring to St Paul's Shipwreck on Malta - "Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island" (27, 26).
The Curia said that theme had been chosen by the Maltese bishops because it showed that God destined St Paul to come to Malta.
The Curia also announced a competition for the design of a logo to be used for the visit.
Those interested in taking part should submit their design on A4 in colour and monochrome and on CD in psd and vector. Submissions should include the name of the artist and a description of the design. Submissions have to be made by December 16 to the organising committee at the Curia.
The organising committee had also invited choir masters to express their interest to form, prepare and lead two choirs to sing during the papal visit to Rabat and St Paul's Grotto and on the Granaries during Mass. Preparations have to start in January.
Choir masters are to indicate their preference and submit scores or recordings. Details have to be sent to the committee by December 7.
More details are available on www.maltadiocese.org or by sending an email to papalvisit@maltadiocese.org

I see you're at the opposite end of "free thinker".
Question everything my friend. It's your life and you'd better take it seriously. Don't live on autopilot or you'll regret it when you're at your last gasp.

Joseph Zammit, isn't the RC a universal church and the Pope the head of that same church?

@Joseph Zammit Its not Malta anymore! Malta it’s just a state of the EU or you have forgotten already!!!!! Ireland is not foreign but an equal state of the EU. That’s what you have voted for and that’s why the Irish voted yes for , to be brothers in arms and why should one forget what went on 40years ago do me a favour!

The Holy Cross is a representation of The Lord's suffering for me and for you. The Holy Cross is what gave us and still is giving us hope against all evil. The sign of the Cross is what fills one's heart with courage. From your comments it seems that there must be many stupid people around the World. Have you ever seen a great footballer making the sign of the Cross before the game starts? He must be one of those that you think can not understand. As for the Eucharist, it is not just part of a ritual of the Christian religion. For a Christian the Eucharist is The True God Jesus with all his Divinity. If you do not want to believe this you are free not to, but I and many more humans do believe and trust Our Church teachings. And by the way... Welcome Your Holiness to our Island. Thousands will be waiting for your blessing with the Sign of The Cross.

@P. Cortis
The cross is merely a symbol--it does not make one Christian. Also for the eucharist--it is part of a ritual of the Christian religion--it does not make one Christian.
We must stop talking non-sense and try instead to understand.
To go back to what louise vella was referring: yesterday it was uncovered that the Irish Church hid for the past 40 years scandals of child abuses. Priests are human beings and they must be made to marry. It is the system that is wrong and the priests--though doing wrong--are in themselves, victims of the wrong system.

@louise vella
Please be reminded that we live in Malta. Reading and commenting on the scandal of the Irish Church that goes way back 40 years when children were abused by priests--I had to do it on foreign online newspapaers. This is Malta.

No... because the cross is something fundamental in our religion, as the holy eucharist is!

Would it not be appropriate also if the Papal visit could be the occasion for the Maltese church to commit itself to as much transparency as the Irish church on matters relating to the behaviour of some priests?
