Marsa power station not causing soot problem - report
A new Mepa report showed that emissions from the Marsa power station had nothing to do with the problem of black dust reported over several localities in the south of Malta, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said today.
Speaking in Parliament, he said that the report was handed to him this morning.
He said that further studies were required to establish the actual source of the dust.
Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt yesterday also said that the dust that had been collected did not have the chemical compositions which would show that it came from the power station.

It appears that MEPA have done a chemical anyalisis of the black dust as they category stated that its chemical properties do not match with the Power Station emissions.
Can they publish without any more delay what were the chemical properties found in this dust and declare whether or not it is detremint for human beings' health. If it is not one can maybe live with the niusance of black dust for some more months unil its source is identified.

Dr Gonzi, If Enemalta uses various types of fuel, the goodone during morning and the fuel emitting black dust at night. Please request MEPA to compare samples of fuel as supplied from refinery as with the fuel discharged whilst dicharging from Tanker if they tally. We are living in a world
that we have to double check every single item.

Shouldn't such a report and the corresponding test results be made public?

Ha Ha Ha !!!!----Perhaps the study was made when the Marsa power station was not in operation???!!!!!!!

I think it is also important to know what is the actual chemical composition of this black dust and an assurance should be given that it is not hazardous to humans.
If it is hazardous (which logically I believe it is) than every one should be made aware of the risks and any precautions people can take to prevent damage to their health.
Once the source of the black dust is confirmed than any studies concerned, like environmental and biological should be included and a solution both short term and long term should be implemented immediately. We have to remember that we are an EU member state and solving this issue doesn't only mean solving a local issue but also getting closer to emission standards imposed by the EU.
It is evident that if the culprit is truly not the power station than it must be some kind of industry which is contributing to this black dust, I can't imagine this being originated from a small business!

For God sake you people know more than the EXPERTS. at Marsa where the Power Station is it could be all kinds of things because as every body knows there are all kinds of industries so it could be anything that coursing the soot problem.

Ok, if the power station is not the cause, who or what is? I don't give a hoot where it is coming from as long as it stops crunching under my feet when I am on the roof. And what about its inhalation? Quit smoking and live longer?!!! Give us a break!

Alright so now we have established where the dust is NOT coming from!
I say it is coming from martian tipods as H.G. Wells wrote in his book War of the Worlds. I wouldn't be at all surprised if tomorrow I wake up to find the whole of the South covered in red weed!

Was the study intended to FIND THE CULPRIT OR SIMPLY TO EXONERATE MEPA? If so isn't this our money down the drain.
Only last week I saw the chimneys bellowing real black smoke and this very morning THE MINISTER himself informed us that NO FILTERS ARE IN PLACE. So this study concluded that black smoke is SIMPLY vanishing.
WHEN IS THIS TAKING PEOPLE FOR A RIDE GOING TO END.

This statement is typical of the incompetence of the PN Government. After so many years of studying, researching and consulting on the problem they still have not managed to give us a satisfactory answer on the source of the black dust. Get some real experts you incompetent fools and solve it asap and once and for all!. It's the Maltese people's health that's at stake here!

So, no filters installed in the chimneys and Mepa experts after about 10 years are sure that the so called soot is not comming from the Marsa power station. So from were is it comming from, MEPA EXPERTS???? Do we need anouther 10 years now???
