@ D Fenech cycle paths on pavements (like on road leading to Mgarr) are unsuitable for road / racer bikes, not even suitable for running actually!
and please.... have a look at the so called cycle lanes, let's just not go there! Debris, weeds, undulating , broken tarmac, open gutters......
Just come back from a morning cycle and pleased to report that drivers are becoming more considerate towards us cyclists. There has to be respect on both sides. As for cycling when it's dark ( I wouldn't dare!) cyclists MUST MUST wear reflective gear and illuminate themselves like a christmas tree to avoid any accidents! Let's hope this youngster recovers.

Hopefully this youngster will recover completely from his injuries.
At the same time I'd like to point out the dangers posed on drivers of other cars and for the 'cyclists' themselves when small engines are mounted on bicycles.

How about putting some serious regulations to these motorised bicycles?

I do hope that he/she recovers quickly from this accident.
Whilst on the subject of cyclists; I was out driving tonight at around 6pm on the Coastroad, it was dark and although the street lights were on, I noticed in my headlights at least three cyclists on my drive that were not displaying any form of light back or front, no reflective clothing and indeed in two cases were wearing dark clothing. Not one of the cyclists were using the cycle path but were on the main part of the road.
I have nothing personal against cyclists but they too have a responsibility to respect the rules and also to take reasonable precautions to prevent accidents to themselves and others.

I'm sorry to hear, and wish the cyclist a speedy recovery with no complications.
However, I'm sorry to note that last week I was driving from Mosta to Rabat (the new road) where there's a cyclist lane. This one cyclist was in the middle of the road instead of in the bicycle lane. I'm also sure that, unfortunately, most if not all drivers have encountered old people (or even mothers with pushchairs, or anyone) walking in the road when there's a HUGE pavement. It's not the first time I notice this in Hamrun for example. And please, those people who jog late during the evening or early in the morning, do where protective clothing for your own good!
And for the drivers, I see no need to speed up to 100km/hr when there's traffic. Most of the time cars overtake me and I will end up beside them on every traffic lights stop.
