Not so smart after all
I heard that the electricity smart meter is not so smart after all and can be outsmarted by a smart electrician bypassing its intelligence without much difficulty.
I think Enemalta engineers should check whether this is really possible and take early action to plug this serious abuse.

@ Karm Cassar
If the meters are smart enough to transmit consumption numbers wirelessly to the main billing computer, surely they must be smart enough to detect any unusual low/high consumption. Such software exists and one assumes that the latest methods are being used in the new system.
Do you think for a moment that the Enemalta engineers happened to be browsing through an electronic catalogue and came across 'smart meters' and ordered a whole bunch of them hoping for the best?

@L.Galea
Those were the days listening to Dire Straits on my cassette player with not a care in the world. Unfortunately Dire Straits are now playing live everyday in my pocket.

If everything and everyone are so smart these days, why is the whole world in such dire straits?

Maybe the ARMS Strategy Manager can shed light on what strategy to adopt for this matter !

I am so sick of the 'smart' word!!! we even had a 'smart' promotion in france a few days back, when smart cars were used to promote malta. i remember the head of our primary school yelling at everyone to stay 'smart' for the assembly: could it be i hate the word so much because i used to hate that school so much?!
urg... back to school stuff... please no!

The important word is "smart": Smart City; Smart hospital, Smart W& E bills, of course "smart W&E meter"; smart ministers, smart people. They all can be outsmarted and is happening.
A n advise to the police , even the DNA can be outsmarted.
However "smart" remains the important word.

Apparently, every street or group of houses will have a separate meter which measures the total consumption of those houses. If there is a discrepancy, it can then be narrowed down to an individual house. Once identified, the culprits could be brought to court where in all likelihood they'll get a suspended sentence.
