The case-load before the courts in Gozo has fallen by 36 per cent in the past five years, the Justice Ministry said.

The ministry said that whereas in the First Hall there were 1,326 pending cases five years ago, now there were 862.

Before the Magistrates' Court, pending cases had been reduced to 139 from 236 in 2004.

Justice Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici praised the two Magistrates in Gozo for having raised the number of cases they decided.

He said the reduction in the case-load was also achieved thanks to measures and legislation introduced by the government for more efficient conflict resolution.
