Malta, Russia, to work on double taxation agreement
Malta and Russia today agreed to work for the conclusion of a double taxation avoidance agreement.
The subject was discussed as part of talks held in Moscow between Foreign Minister Tonio Borg and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The talks focused on trade and investment and tackling organised crime.
An improvement in procedures for the granting of visas to Russian visitors was also discussed. Mr Lavrov noted that interest in Russian tourist visits to Malta was increasing.
The Russian minister also thanked Malta for its assistance in the recent hijacking of the Maltese-flagged but Russian crews freighter Arctic Sea.

Great thanks to the ToM for your webcam and for the unical ability to see the port arrival of Arctic Sea!
It was first we could see her after many weeks when we were not sure she is alive. Since now, Malta is for me a symbol of salvation and almost home. And your webcam continues to be in my screen daily as a window to the free and human world.
Thanks also to the Maritime Administration for a courageous visit to the ship at Canarias and then reporting she is in order. And to the Minister Borg now.
A large question: is there some statement of what the Minister has said about the Arctic Sea, altering from its highly breaf and misty release by soviet/russian agency ITAR-TASS?
A small question: how must we pronounce the name Borg? The last letter in traditional English would be ch, j or g? :)

How about asking the Russian Government to pay the debt they have with the Maltese government?

Lets hope the governments of both sides work harder to improve relations. This can be a very good first step. Well done guys. Go for it !

Good news to see that Malta is negotiating with Russia on commercial basis. How about an oil and gas agreement, perhaps cheaper and guaranteed supplies, would be in the works?

A good move in the right direction between any country, why should an individual pay double, its not economical and not fair to anyone, this applies also for a family car imported from any EU country, whats the point of being partners if one has to pay double import tax registration come VAT..thats no partnerships, that is extortion by the government's it not right or fair in my books. Please correct me if anybody else thinks different.
