Borg knocked out, Zammit in semis

Alex Borg was knocked out of the IBSF World Championships yesterday after going down to a narrow 5-4 defeat to India's Kamal Chawla in Hyderabad.

The Malta champion had progressed to the Last 32 stage with a flawless record but he came unstuck against Chawla. Borg paid the price for fluffing a number of opportunities to wrap up the match as he lost the crucial ninth frame on the final black.

In the masters, Simon Zammit stayed on course to win the title after advancing to the semi-finals yesterday. Zammit followed up his 4-0 victory over India's Devendra Joshi in the Last 16 with a 4-1 win over Noppadon Noppachorn, of Thailand, in the quarter-finals.
