PL asks if Mepa monitoring Bahrija development

The Opposition spokesman on Mepa, Roderick Galdes, said this afternoon that the resumption of works on the Bahrija site owned by former PN president Victor Scerri was a demonstration how the Authority was weak with the strong, and strong with the weak.

Mr Galdes in a statement said that although the Authority had withdrawn one of the permits issued to Dr Scerri, others issued previously remained valid.

He said that even in the remaining permits, a condition of the development was that the integrity of this scenic spot had to be maintained. He asked if Mepa was monitoring the site to ensure that this condition was being maintained.

He said the current works gave every impression that the site would be ruined.
