No matter how much you love Christmas, getting your home in order for the December festivities can be a headache! There are so many different styles and ways to give your home a festive touch nowadays that deciding on a particular theme has become very difficult.

And of course, some of us are not exactly too fond of the Christmas decorations from the days of our childhood, with the over-the-top and gaudy tinsel and baubles. At Domestica I tend to suggest that those who belong to this category opt for a more classic and streamlined look, using specific home accessories and particular colours to add a festive feel to the home without overdoing it.

When picking a colour theme, red or gold always make a great choice for the season – warm and bright, without being too glitzy. The trick is to make sure you mix and match your accessories without going overboard on the colour. The best thing about taking this mix and match approach is that you can pick a number of lovely individual items without costing a fortune. Christmas is a time when everybody should be able to treat themselves and this is also one reason why the festive collection at Domestica is priced in such a way as to make it very accessible.

For instance, if you choose something on the lines of the ASA red decorative star dish as centerpiece for your table, make sure you use clean, white plates in order to create a sharp contrast. You can then add more dashes of colour by matching your other room accessories to the main item in the room.

Children especially love the opportunities of colour that Christmas brings with it. I like to use ASA and Guzzini as examples of stylish yet vibrant festive accessories because they bring in the element of colour in a fun way.

And for those who really like to make something special out of the Christmas lunch or dinner table, you can let your imagination run wild and put together a selection of special tableware and dining room accessories such as vases, candles, dinner sets and even cheese knives, pepper mills and other intriguing items that would also make a great Christmas gift, especially when visiting friends over the season.
