200 migrants arrive in Sicily
Some 200 migrants have been landed in Sicily after having been rescued from a boat 75Km off Capo Passero - the southernmost point of Sicily.
The migrants, thought to be from Eritrea, were picked up by the Italian coastguard.
The packed boat included 48 women and a number of children. Some of the migrants needed hospital treatment, having been at sea for a number of days.

@louise Vella i don't think you/we should worry about more influx of illegals really, when i was in Italy last, i happened to ask one of these chaps who was lucky enough to get a permit from the authorities, and he blantly said and i quote : My friend some only choose Malta as a stepping stone to a better country*, nobody want to stay on that little island longer then they have to: ---Now what do you make out of that? it got me wondering whether we as as good as we make out to be or as rich not only in having posh cars or money in the bank or even education as most of our citizens brag we are do you? i hear so many negative comments from my colleagues in the UK, i too am thinking either joining the imigrants to a better country or just grin and bare the high cost of living and high inflation that we are begining to resemble a third world country with all the half bulit sore eye concrete lime stone bulidings and heavy traffic, not enough room to breath let alone bring up our next generation. Think about it!

I would like to know if Italy kept their policy to return them back.I hope They did.
I agree with louise vella but unfortunately our government never took any position on this issue and we don't know where we are standing at the moment

Had we sent back the first group of illegal immigrants, Malta would have NEVER been in this mess we're in now. Neither voluntary burden sharing nor an obligatory one are the solution to this crisis. Only peaceful repatriation - no need to use force or violence - is!

In case anybody thinks we’re safe from the influx of illegal African boat people, let me add that in addition to these 200 illegal immigrants we’ve also been saved from another 80 of them.
www.corriere.it reports that a big boat with about 80, heading towards Italian waters, was pushed back when it was some 50 miles south of Lampedusa, the operation being conducted by Libyan and Maltese authorities without the intervention of any Italian naval assets:
Immigrati: barcone respinto al largo di Lampedusa

ROMA - E' stato respinto mentre si trovava al largo di Lampedusa un barcone con circa 80 immigrati, che era diretto verso acque italiane. L'operazione e' stata condotta da autorita' libiche e maltesi. Nessun mezzo navale italiano e' stato interessato nelle operazioni, si sottolinea dalla capitaneria di porto di Palermo. (RCD)

I hope Europe adopt on common policy: to send all these refugees back. Stop molly cuddling Africa and let it grow up! It acts like a spoilt child who constantly wants things done for him!
