Vilhena's monument

After the successful open weekend at Fort Manoel, it is clear that the restoration work is at an advanced stage.

Wirt Għawdex would like to appeal to the authorities to include, as part of the restoration, the return of the Vilhena monument to its original place in the Piazza d'Armi at Fort Manoel.

Grand Master Antoine de Vilhena had generously contributed to the construction of this gem of baroque military architecture and rightfully deserves his place in a conspicuous spot at the fort. Wirt Għawdex feels that the monument, in its current location on the main traffic artery in Floriana, is not being given due appreciation.

Midi plc and Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna should also be congratulated on the high standard of the restoration work at this historical fort.
