Msida St Joseph pulled off their first win of the season after coming from a goal down to topple fellow relegation strugglers Dingli Swallows 2-1 in today's opening Premier League match at the Hibs Ground.

Dingli had the better start to the game, going ahead after eight minutes. Brazilian midfielder Andre Rocha Da Silva delivered a good cross from a corner and Nigerian striker Joseph Okonkwo, who was making his return from injury, rose high to head the ball past Manuel Bartolo, the Msida goalkeeper.

The Swallows held the initiative for the best part of the opening half but Okonkwo missed a string of clear scoring chances to increase his team's lead. The first 25 minutes of the second half were short of flowing football but gradually Msida improved. With 16 minutes left, Msida made it 1-1 courtesy of Adam Spiteri who scored with a fine volley after receiving a cross from Argentine forward Emiliano Lattes.

As Dingli faltered, Msida applied the killer blow five minutes from time when Tyrone Farrugia's long-range drive caught Jeffrey Farrugia, the Dingli goalkeeper, by surprise. Thanks to this victory, Msida now have five points from seven matches.

They have leapfrogged Dingli who are bottom of the table with only three points.
