Two foreigners were arrested after one was found carrying cocaine in his stomach, the police said yesterday.

The arrests took place in Sliema after the police were informed that the couple, who had arrived from Brussels the previous night, were likely to be in possession of drugs.

After a search which proved negative, the two foreigners, born in the Dominican Republic but residing in Spain, were taken to Mater Dei Hospital and following medical tests one, the man, 36, was found to be carrying drug capsules in his stomach. He had swallowed 80 capsules containing around 800 grammes of cocaine.

His female partner, 35, was arrested for further investigations.

An inquiry is being held by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera.
