A Nigerian immigrant who escaped from Safi detention centre in June was arraigned in court today after he was caught trying to leave Malta, allegedly using false documents.

Dennis Abiku, 23, was denied bail after having been accused of being in possession of false Italian documents. He pleaded not guilty.

Another migrant, Fred Obeng, 24, admitted similar charges and was jailed for six months.
