1 million energy saving bulbs distributed
Some one million energy saving bulbs have been distributed by the government, Resources Minister George Pullicino said in Parliament.
He said the mailing of 130,000 vouchers to households had now been completed. €4 million were allocated for the scheme.
Those who did not receive a voucher which they believed they were entitled to should phone on 80072212 and a voucher would be mailed to them after verification, the minister said.

Jimmy Vella is totally right. I have purchased energy saving bulbs (Phillips) from Home Base in UK - 5 for £1. Something wrong with bulk buying as far as the customer is happy. Why the goverment have spent 4 Euros for each distributed bulb when with some common sense it can have been bought for less than 50c? Do you know that the government buys all his medicine in bulk??? Is it the same principle?

1000000 bulbs eh? If each 40 watts traditional bulb was substituted with even a 20 watt energy saving one (=100watt traditional), then we should have a saving of 20x1 million watts or 20,000 Kilowatts or 20 Megawatts. Not bad. But is this reflected in the consumption as recorded by Enemalta. THAT in my opinion is the million dollar question and the measure of success or failure of this scheme.

@Ron Saliba
You are obvious thinking of Mintoff and the bulk buying he used to to do i.e. corned beef tins.
How do you think prices are so much cheaper in England than in Malta.Because they buy in bulk.
I don`t suppose you hold an economics degree by any chance,do you?

All this has been a waste of time. I contacted Keith Galea (Communications Officer) through e-mail and phone several times and explained to him my situation and he told me which steps to take to be in conformity for the vouchers yet i'm still without them and I beleive he has taken me for a ride cause I haven't heard from him since. M'hemmx serjeta!

What is the big deal with these bulbs,in England you can buy 5 for Just £1.The government would have been better buying the bulbs in bulk and then distribute them itself, and then add another 10 Euro`s to the electricity bill, and everybody would have been a winner. The only winners in his exercise is the ironmongers.

Lucky all you folk!!
My family of three persons NEVER received any of these vouchers for free bulbs even though I personally contacted the relative customer care people, the Ministry involved and sent an email to Minister Pullicino personally on his gov address without any reply.
To add insult to injury, I recently spoke to Minister Pullicno on air on a radio program on Radio 101 about this problem that certain families have not yet received the vouchers and the scheme will soon close and on air, he premised me to contact me on the phone details left with the program engineer. Regretfully, it seems that his battery is flat as I never received any calls!!
To say if in Maltese, fakani bit-telefonati u waqqali il-batterija bit-telefonati.
DISGRACE !!

The only government not to burden everyone with unfair taxes and educates people. Well done government. How stupid to lament when there's no reason to. Malta is overflowing with wealth. We have never seen such good times!!!

I am yet another second class citizen! I received no vouchers notwithstanding I have been living on my own for over six whole years. Although I changed my ID card address to correspond with my new address, I was considered to be still living with my mother!!!
How incompetent!!!

Can someone tell me whether these vouchers have reached Tarxien please? I sent an e-mail using the address posted on the ministry's website energyswitch@gov.mt, however, I'm still without a reply after almost 3 weeks. The phone number provided above is unavailable on a Saturday. Trying to phone during the week proved futile...no one answers the phone
