On August 20 this newspaper carried an article about the first cruise liner to berth at the new terminal at Senglea. The project is a very good step in the right direction. It gives hope that this long neglected, but extremely interesting, historical and beautiful area can, in the future, return to its former glory.
I have visited the area and have admired the views from the top of the bastions, a really outstanding view. However, there is one huge eyesore, which, in my opinion, keeps the place looking extremely shabby, both to people who like me admired the view from the top of the bastions, and also to the passengers of the visiting cruise liners.
I am referring to the rusty slum-like roof of the warehouse, which, according to earlier reports, will be used as a museum in the future.
The idea is good and will be an attraction, but pressure must be exerted so that this rusty iron roof will be totally dismantled. When a new roof is built, the height should not exceed the height of the bastions, or of the cruise liners as at the current height it hinders the views both from the bastions and also from the cruise liners.
