A mockery of our highest institution
The Labour Party's waving of an English-language newspaper during the Budget speech was a clear signal of the tastelessness of the party in opposition. Instead of focusing on the issue at hand, that is, the economic policy for the coming year, the same old faces chose to feed on the same old tactics, which have been shot down time and again, to try to hijack one of the most important events of the year. Thank God none of the papers fell so low as to give the story importance the next day.

Youths from the Nationalist Party are lately sending in letters with similar taglines (are these elves as well?). Why don't you all speak out your own mind? Ms. Rapa should know better after her performance on Bondi+, and the results you get when you write or say what other people tell you!
Speaking of mockery, who is lately not attending parliament and telling other ministers to answer PQs? which minister said that with 5 MPs more he doesn't need to come to Parliament? which Party is afraid to discuss the power station contract? which minister considered an interview with this newspaper 'enough' in case involving serious allegations against him?
and by the way, are you serious when you say that the Budget speech is 'one of the most important events of the year' ? it serves only as a PR exercise for the Minister and his party. Rather than repeated promises, people are 'awaiting' the new utility + gas tariffs to see how they will make ends meet!

I am sure that Ms. Rapa was annoyed not by the waving of the newspaper but by the particular story which issued on the paper.
This Government reached rock bottom. Stories of corruption involving the same old faces have become the order of the day. Parliament represents the people and the Opposition did well to give prominence to another reported case of corruption by one of the leading figures in the GonziPN administration.

Ms. Rapa shoulkd thank God that we are no longer seeing labour members of parliament and persons in the Strangers' gallery throwing briefcases at nationalist MP's, or crossing the floor to punch them in their face. Neither are we seeing high ranking army officials entering parliament and threatening anyone.

@ Mariella Rapa
"instead of focusing on the issue at hand, that is, the economic policy for the coming year"
Why are you surprised? They had already heard most of the proposals during last year's speech. In fact they have been hearing some of them, year in year out, for several years now!

Ridiculous comment. The mockery, is only by those that should behold high, ethics and morality viz our country and its citizens, and who on the contrary choose to do as they please to satisfy their greed.

@ Mariella
Mockery with what.......don't you follow foreign news.......or if these things happen in Malta, we call them mockery.
Have we come to the point that one cannot complain or point fingers at any one....or these things are only allowed to be done from the government side, like the attack on the MEPA auditor!!

@mariella. there you go.....the newspapers ignored it but intelligent people like you got the significance behind such act....and it made you write in the papers about it. You understood it as a sign of the past, others including me might see things a bit different!

In my opinion, waving an English news paper ( very important it is not labour ) in parliament, was at the right time and place. Considering that the person reading the budget, the Minister of finance Mr. Tonio Fenech had two very serious accusations, concerning finance, coming not from the P.L. side. You made me smile when you said that the Budget is the most important event of the year, may I ask you which budget you are refer to ? because this government do a budget every month, we have one next January, you know ? Your last comment shows that you made fuss on nothing. Last one from me .It is much better to show a newspaper, than a BATTERY LEAD. If you are young, have interest and ask, what does it means.

In which year are you living......isn't obvious what the opposition wanted to give a message to the finance minister whilst reading the budget.
Or now these things do offend the government so much and it's followers.
