ASM riders show their mettle in Calabria
ASM Motocross riders achieved excellent results in a difficult Beachcross competition, held in Gioia Tauro, Calabria earlier this month. Competing in the Promosport class for riders aged over 21 years, Paul Muscat topped the field with a total of 45 points. Italian rider Domenico Rachele was a close second and Malta's Clayton Camilleri third. The Maltese riders were presented with certificates of merit and trophies by Luigi Mamone, FMI president for the Calabria region. Frans Deguara, the president of the Assoċazzjoni Sport Muturi (ASM) led the Maltese team that also included Melvin Borg.

I wish to congratulate Frans Deguara for his initiative and leadership, as well as his team members for their successful performance. It is becoming increasingly obvious that some of our competitors in motor racing and motor cycle sports are talented, even though they have to learn the hard way. As far as it is known very few, if any, have been to racing drivers schools. Is it not time for our authorities to consider the possibility of setting up a proper racing circuit in partnership with the private sector. This was promised by all the major political parties in electoral programmes ages ago. Until this is done some additional investment in the autocross and motocross track at Ta’ Qali could enhance the standards of our talented competitors. Motor and motor cycle sports can generate high economic activities in addition to their value to tourism and entertainment.
