PORTELLI. On November 18, Fr DOMINIC PORTELLI, OSA, aged 69, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss the Augustinian Fathers, his sisters, Sr Beniamina, OSA, Jane, Josephine and her husband Peter Farrugia, Margaret and her husband Victor Abela, Evelyn and her husband Godfrey Harmsworth, his nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves the Augustinian Oratory, Tarxien, tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. for St Nicholas church, Lampuka Street, Tarxien, where a concelebrated Mass praesente cadavere will be said, followed by interment in the grave of the Augustinian Province at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

SCHEMBRI. On November 19, at Mater Dei Hospital, CHARLES, secretary Mepa Appeals Board, from and residing at Birkirkara, aged 60, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Mother Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Mary, née Abela, his children Claire, Roberto and his wife Sandra, his beloved grandchildren Kyle and Alessia May, his brothers and sisters, Mary, Rev. George Schembri, Anthony, Helen and her husband George Debattista, Pio and his wife Margaret, his parents-in-law Costantino and Vincenza Abela, his brothers-in-law and their spouses, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m., for the old church of Santa Maria, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said, followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request, but donations to charitable institutions will be appreciated. The family regret that they are unable to receive visitors. May the Lord treasure him in His garden of rest.

SPITERI. On November 18, at her residence in Kalkara, GRACE, widow of Emmanuel, aged 87, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Angelo and his wife Antoinette, Carmen, Mary and her husband Phillip Spiteri, Raymond and his wife Annie, and Josephine and her husband Paul Cusack, her grandchildren Marie Luisa, Stefania, Mark Anthony, Benardine, John, Elena and Lisa Marie and their respective spouses, her sister, Sr Marie Stefania Abdilla of the Franciscan Sisters, her brother Joseph, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves her residence today at 2.15 p.m. for St Joseph parish church, Kalkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Żabbar cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Power cuts

There will be power cuts today as follows:

From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in parts of l-Ispiera, Qasam, Ħemel, Qatta and Sejjieħ streets in Swieqi and Ta' l-Ibraġ.

Between 8.30 a.m. and 2.30 p.m. in Żagħruna, Indipendenza, Mattia Preti and Giuseppe Calì streets and parts of 31 ta' Marzu and Dun Karm Fenech streets in Għargħur.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Markiż Bugeja, Martino De Redin, Knisja, Mosta, Parades, Pawl, Parroċċa, Emanuele Pinto, San Ġorġ, San Pawl il-Baħar, Jean De La Vallette, Menqa and Jean De La Cassier streets, Mosta Road and the lower part of the bypass in St Paul's Bay.

Hair and beauty marathon

The 36-hour annual hair and beauty marathon in aid of charity will this year be held at the main campus of the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology, in Paola.

All proceeds raised from the 15th edition, starting on Sunday, will go to the Malta Community Chest Fund. Mcast students will be working with professional hairdressers and beauty therapists to provide services at a discounted rate.

In addition, there will be child-minding services, a variety of herbs and plants on sale, along with delicacies prepared by the students.

Cat sanctuary needs volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help at the Tomasina Cat Sanctuary. Anyone interested in volunteering, sponsoring a cat, giving food or making donations can contact tomasinasanctuary@gmail.com or call on 9940 3437/9949 5962/7941 5333.

Sports complex closed

Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex will be closed between Monday and the end of January 2010 for maintenance works.
