More dogs saved
The Animal Welfare Department are seeking information about the owner/s of dogs that used to be kept locked in a dark place in Valletta, surrounded by their excrement.
The dogs were saved this morning following an anonymous call to the department.
Godrick Marston told timesofmalta.com that the dogs were kept in a sort of passageway in a bastion opposite the Yellow Garage.
The property belonged to the Housing Department and the person/s keeping the dogs in it had forced open the door and installed new locks.
Inside, the department found two bulldogs which had bites on them and a chihuahua in one area and an American pitbull in another.
Although the dogs were fed, they had no fresh air, were left in darkness and the place was filthy.
The dogs were placed in vans and taken to a sanctuary.

Animals have no VOTE............That`s why ALL members of parliament should be a shame of themselves. Before any election,to steal our votes the ALL cries for the benefits of animals. Today, seeing these things, done by monsters, they do nothing. I am sure that in JUST one session, they will have a total agreement to adopt harsh laws for those who abuse, do cruelty and kill animals. What I wish to see is very simple........We keep the penalties we have now, just makes them " X 10 ". Well done goes to ALL involved, @ Joseph Curmi........I have been saying what you have said,ages...They know about them.......When time comes,do not worry, Mr. Mario Spiteri knows what to do.

Meanwhile whilst this form of sickening animal cruelty goes on on our island, some other folks prefer to worry on other trivial matters such as whether crosses should be shown in public places...

Congratulations to the people who report these dogs kept in misery and as well to the Animal Welfare Department who are doing a great job. Don´t forget to punish the people who do this to the poor creatures! The dogs all looked as if they had never seen daylight before only being taken out for dog fights probably. Please remember to support the sanctuaries. They are full to the brim already and the few helpers cannot give these traumatized dogs the special care they would need. We would love to take some more Maltese dogs over to Germany for rehoming if it weren´t for the high transportation costs (1 kg 13 Euros!!)

How sad!! Hope the culprit gets caught and places in a dark place himself!!
Let's hope that the laws for trespassing into governments property are harsher then those of cruelty to animals!

What worries me is that these type of news seem to be coming frequent...

Well done to the Animal Welfare Department. It is high time that animal rights are taken more seriously and proper enforcement is put in place. Yesterday I watched a very disturbing videoclip of a LIthuanian guy throwing his dog down from a bridge on solid ground in Italy. This goes to show that harsher laws should be created and enforced. Animals cannot always defent themselves and therefore they need our protection.

When will we ever learn in this Catholic island of ours? What is interesting is that despite their ordeal, the dogs were so friendly towards their handlers and clearly shows the love they have towards humandkind - which affection in many cases is not recipocated considering the number of unfortunately cases we know about and many many more unknown!
I hope that the Minister concerned would give the necessary funding to the Welfare Department and Noah's Ark to continue with their good work in rescuing animals, otherwise animal cruelty and abandonement would escalate once again.

I wish to know what will happen to these lovely creatures now that they are 'saved' ?? Will they be humanly put down if not fostered within a period of time?

Another successful day for the hard working team at the animal welfare department. Had it not been for these people, these creatures of God would have remained living in a state that no one, including animals should ever be faced with. People like this need to be brought forward and procecuted. Keep up the good work, the stray and neglected animals of Malta and Gozo need you!!!

In the face of such cruelty, do the authorities continue to look the other way and act as if nothing is happening? Or do our values of which so many leaders speak ad nauseam about stop with what really hits the human species? Doesn't our interest in values enter the realm of animal care as well?

Well done to the authorities for taking action. Are the sanctuaries homing these animals being helped though? I know that many animal sanctuaries have financial troubles to say the least.

Well done Animal Welfare!!!
How about tackling the dogs locked up in the disused shelters/rooms at Marsamxett under the Valletta bastions. It is rumoured that fighting dogs are kept there!!!!
Good luck and keep up the good work for these unfortunate animals.

Everyday I realise how much we needed the Animal Welfare Directorate! Prosit to all the Directorate staff! A word to the police. We are all grateful about your everending war against drug pushers and barons and to a lesser extent on criminality. Please make another important effort, bring these animals persecutors to dock.
