Evidence a nine-year-old boy gave in a sex-related court case against his uncle led to his grandmother being arr-aigned and charged with defiling him.
The woman, 54, whose name is not being published to protect the identity of the minor, pleaded not guilty to defiling him, holding him against his will, engaging in sexual activities and committing a violent indecent assault on him.
The boy's uncle had faced similar charges.
Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera placed the woman under house arrest against a personal guarantee of €5,000 after taking into consideration the fact that she is a diabetic.
Police Inspector Louise Calleja prosecuted. Lawyer Anġlu Farrugia was defence counsel.
