European Commission closes infringement proceedings against Malta
Infringement proceedings launched by the European Commission against Malta have been closed following the country’s successful implementation of EU rules on racial discrimination.
The Commission said this morning it was also closing similar cases against Spain and Slovakia.
The cases had been opened because national legislation was incompatible with the EU's Race Equality Directive, adopted in November 2000. This prohibited direct and indirect discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin both in and outside employment.
Vladimír Špidla, Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, said:
"Tackling all forms of discrimination has been a priority for this Commission and for me personally. The EU has a unique legal framework to ensure protection against discrimination, but it also has to be correctly transposed and applied at national level to be effective. I am particularly happy that, following action by the Commission, three more member states have brought their rules into line with common EU rules."

This is another reason why we must leave the eu dictatorship and tell its petty dictators to go to hell.
They are all out to de-nationalize the Maltese nation and dilute it with other backward cultures from Africa who are still living in the stone age.
WE MUST GET OUT FROM THE EU COLONIALISM IF WE ARE TO SURVIVE AS A NATION.

@ Louis Gialanze
You are exactly right but remember, they do get a very good pay check , at the nations expense,

Louis Gialanze is spot on with her comment, when I used to write letters to the Times of Malta before your referendum on EU membership I warned of the loss of sovereignty and that the ultimate end game for the EU was one single nation - a superstate.
I was often attacked for this on the letters page and accused of wanting Malta to return to being a colony of the UK, which was not the case. Because thye warnings of EU-sceptics such as myself were not headed and the people of Malta voted 'Yes' in your referendum, you are now fast becoming a colony of the EU. Like the UK, Malta should quit the EU while it still has a chance.

I am actually very thankful for that. That is precisely why I voted to get in the EU, so that our government is reduced to the status of local council.
Since our parties are not capable of running the island (which would have been my 1st preference - to have a solid local government), then we have to fall back on the leaders from outside.
At least they fix some of the problems our government would never dream of touching.

Whilst any form of racial discrimination is to be condemned, one cannot help noticing that Malta is back into the colonial days, this time as a colony of the EU, taking it's orders from the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. Unfortunately, with the coming into effect of the Lisbon Treaty our parlament will be reduced to the role of a local council.

I always half-wondered what "talking out of one's hat" really meant. Now I definitely know - thanks to Mr Stephen Farrugia.

All these actions and laws are directly aimed against the Maltese people, Malta is lost. A federal state ( only option left), will have to revise all such agreements. In fact, none will be signed and all withdrawn.
