Power cuts in Gozo
Following a power failure in June, the Enemalta chairman suggested that this was something that happened about once every five years. I queried it, in these columns, at the time, saying that on occasions in Gozo it appeared more like every five days.
On Wednesday it happened again. So now it's every five months, rather than years - and that's even if you don't count the isolated, one-village-only cuts. The whole of Gozo was without power for three or four hours. Apparently parts of Malta, including some hospitals, suffered too. So much for high-tech Malta.
And Eco-Gozo may sound to some people like a good idea. But could we first have Electro-Gozo, and get a grant from the EU for a back-up generator?

All i can say is that Gozo is becoming like a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY everyday., There is more but it would take many long webpages to list them all. Harry Baitman

Just a week or so ago mighty Brazil went lights out....what's so special about little Malta in order not to experience outages?

@ Revel Barker
"...get a grant from the EU for a back-up generator?"
That will work wonders for Eco-Gozo!
It is amazing how every time there is a few hours power interruption, many will write that such things do not happen in Europe, North of us that is. Would they let us know where the occasional outage is never experienced because many are reported all the time due to either equipment failure or weather related events. Fortunately for Malta, weather related outages might as well be ruled out and once Delimara station generating capacity is expanded by modern equipment, the infrequent interruptions will become rarer.
Isolated whole village outages are usually due to line maintenance and are normally pre-announced.

The chances of experiencing a power failure in Gozo stand higher than those of a town in mainland Europe.
It seems that Mr Barker has got the 'Maltese gemgem' bug. We all know in what state the Marsa power station is and what ridiculous energy prices we were paying.
Now we know that this power station is going to be scrapped and more generators are going to be installed at Dellimara , we also know that we are going to be connected to the European power grid and that wind generators will be installed if studies prove to be positive. Malta will also have a plant producing energy for 15,000 homes from biodegradable waste and we will be burning waste to produce energy.
Many households grabbed the opportunity of buying subsidised solar water heaters and PV cells. We all know that these measures are in the pipeline or being implemented.
Grumbling will get us nowhere.

Revel pleeeaaassseee, he meant five weeks for a complete blackout, five days if you live in Gozo and the South.
