Please switch off the traffic lights!
Wednesday, November 18, 6.15 a.m. Most of Malta was in darkness due to some fault at the power station. All traffic lights were switched off and hurray, no traffic jams anywhere! Even the tunnels ran smoothly! Dear ADT, will you please switch off all traffic lights? Malta runs more smoothly without them.

Traffic flowed only because of the sterling work provided by traffic police in full force in no time! It was co-ordination at its very best, especially at the Marsa/Paola junction where a couple of traffic police were present.

Vera poplu tal mickey mouse, poplu tal free for all.
We made a lot of pressure and wrote a lot of letters on the times blaming the govt ( we cannot still even distinguish between adt and govt) on traffic jams at kappara roundabout and finally we had it our way & traffic lights were removed. Now we have a free for all, a complete jungle, with traffic still piling up & a big accident waiting to happen especially during school hours. Insomma, kuntent il poplu, kuntent kulhadd!
Kieku ahna poplu iddixplinat u kordjali forsi tifhimha li ma jkunx hawn lights imma bis salvagismu u egoismu ta sewqan li hawn, alla jhares ma jkollniex lights.

The traffic lights could be controlled with sensors and they work according to the load of traffic at the moment passing through the street.

I commented on a letter yesterday about this ... my daily journey from Mosta to Valletta took approximately eight minutes less than usual! I am sure the switched off traffic lights had something to do with it!

Although I don't fully agree with this letter, I believe that most traffic lights which had been installed for years now have their timers back dated. Some roads might be more or less busy than 5 or more years ago when the lights had been installed. But we're talking about ADT here so don't expect an extra effort unless there's an income involved

What we really need is traffic lights whose timing changes according to the day of the week and the hour of the day, based on the amount of traffic travelling across the junction.
