NFL games on cable television (1)
I refer to my open letter (November 12) asking why Melita was not showing NFL games on the ESPN America channel as is done elsewhere in Europe, and, more importantly, as Melita advertises in its monthly guide and in this newspaper's listings. Kevin Borg, "head of customer experience" at Melita, has replied (November 17).
With respect, this reply merely raises additional questions: 1. If, as Mr Borg suggests, the content is "beyond [Melita's] control", why is he assuring us that the NFL games will be back "as from September 2010"? And, 2. alternatively, if as this latter would suggest, Melita does have some power to control what is shown, or what it receives from ESPNAmerica, why does it not take steps to have the NFL games shown now, in response to viewer complaints, rather than wait for next season?
Or, Mr Borg, is this really just a case of Melita not wanting to pay the money for the games this season?

American football is the greatest, most complex and exciting strategic ball game in the world. Once you become hooked to its complex moves soccer becomes a big yawn other than for very rare occasions when you get an action filled game. It is therefore very sorry situation for football fans that this year we are reduced to watch college games which even so are better than most soccer games.

I'm sorry but i do have to troll on this one. WTF is Mr Murphy on about. Perhaps he should read the letter below his. I am no fan of Melita cable, but doe she honestly think Melita pick and choose single programmes. or does he not understand the phrase NFL do not have teh rights for Malta.
As to how Melita knows that NFL will be back on TV next September. Its called forward planning. A strange thought i know but believe it or not TV stations buy transmission rights years in advance. Doh!

Who wants to see a crowd of hulking thugs, who's only qualification is their size and weight, trying to smash each other to pieces?
Take my advice and watch football instead. Now there is a game worth watching!
