A number of readers sent us pictures they took overnight and this morning of the mist over Malta. Here are some of them.

Nyal Xuereb - view of Maghtab; Kimberly Zammit Endrich above the mist from the 20th floor of Portomaso; Matthew Dougall - Sliema at night; Martin Vella - Zejtun Church; Josette Zammit - Malta Freeport; David Mansfield - van emerges from the Coastroad mist; Artist Cordina, Hamrun during the night; Andre' Bonello, Marsascala, Raymond Mizzi - St Paul's Bay; David Camilleri - Portomoaso and Arienne Gaerty - sunrise.

Charles Galdies, from the Meteorological Office, told timesofmalta.com that the type of mist which swept was over Malta in the past 24 hours was known as sea fog. It was formed when a hot air mass hit a colder surface. It was more prevelant at night and very early in the morning when the air was cooler and the humidity greater.

This kind of fog, which is very common at this time of the year, is expected to diminish in the next 24 hours, Dr Galdies said.
