The College of Parish Priests has called on all those involved in the organisation of village feasts to remove any sense of confrontation and to collaborate in the discussion on the Church consultative document on the feasts.

In a statement issued after a meeting which was also attended by the Archbishop, the parish priests insisted that the feasts had to be a reflection of the Christian values of the parish. They had no intention of hindering the feasts as long as the religious spirit was respected. That was the intention of the Church document.

The priests said the Church shouldered ultimate responsibility for the feasts, in the churches and outside. They said the Church document was aimed at improving the feasts by removing those elements which against unity, religious respectm and public morality.
