The EU's Economic and Financial Affairs Council (Budget) has given a second reading to the EU Budget for 2010 which include a €20 million allocation for Malta to party finance the electricity connector with Italy. Other allocations include €5 million for small island initiatives and €1 million for broadband and for agricultural projects.
The funds will come from a €5 billion package for energy, broadband and agricultural projects included in the European Economic Recovery Plan.
The 2010 budget of the European Union is expected to be finalised by a vote in the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg next month.
During the Council meeting Malta was represented by the Permanent Representative of Malta to the European Union, Richard Cachia Caruana and Alfred Camilleri, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance.
