A Libyan man was yesterday charged with stealing over €27,000 in cash and jewellery from the same house in two separate burglaries.

El Magrus Juma Abdalla, 32, of Siġġiewi, pleaded not guilty to stealing the cash and other items from a house in Mellieħa in September and October. He was also charged with attempting to steal more items from the house last Friday. He was charged with stealing €8,000 at 3.45 p.m. on September 10 and €3,000 in cash and €16,300 worth of jewellery on October 23 between 7 and 8 a.m.

Last Friday between 3 and 4 p.m., he was allegedly caught as he tried to access the house in George Borg Olivier Street through the balcony.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti turn-ed down his request for bail.

Police Inspector Paul Bond prosecuted.

Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the accused as legal aid.
