Before, we used to see them reading newspapers or taking down notes while being driven around. Politicians used to manage to blabber something when confronted by a demanding reporter or an embarrassing question.

Some had the courtesy of occasionally waving from their car while others hid behind a wall of daunting bodyguards. But now, the wit seems to have all but gone. So instead they shield themselves with the ominous mobile phone. Forget about getting any eye or ear contact with a VIP; they're on the phone so please do not interrupt.

I thought I'd see some departure from this habit during the days preceding the general election but, alas, I did not.

Someone better tell them that too much time on the mobile could cause permanent damage to their brains and this country cannot afford malfunctioning politicians anymore.
