Borg makes it three out of three

Alex Borg yesterday extended his winning run to three matches at the IBSF World Championships with a 4-0 victory over Libya's Khaled Belaid Mohamed.

Thanks to yesterday's success, Borg has all but secured his place in the knock-out stages of the competition which is being played in Hyderabad, India. The Malta champion obtained identical 4-2 victories over India's Manan Chandra and Australian James Mifsud in his opening two Group D matches.

Duncan Bezzina returned to winning ways yesterday with a 4-1 victory over China's Yu Delu. The Senglea-born player lost 4-2 to Singapore's Lim Chun Kiat on Monday but his victory yesterday kept him on course to advance from Group M.

Ninety-five players are contesting the men's championship. The participants have been divided into 16 groups with the top four in each section qualifying for the knock-out stages.

In the Masters event, Simon Zammit bounced back from his 3-2 defeat to India's Geet Sethi on Monday with a 3-1 win over Mostafa Aly, of Egypt, yesterday.
