Ireland centre Brian O'Driscoll is the hot favourite for the International Rugby Board's Player of the Year award after being included on a seven-man shortlist yesterday.

O'Driscoll led Ireland to a Six Nations grand slam - winning the competition's player of the year award and helped Leinster win the Heineken Cup last year.

Irish number eight Jamie Heaslip is also included on the list.

All Blacks flanker Richie McCaw is also on the list along with England flanker Tom Croft, Australia flyhalf Matt Giteau and South African backs François Steyn and Fourie du Preez.
