Let me congratulate Marsascala mayor Mario Calleja who recently was on a missionary visit to my parish of La Tomilla in the Province of Cayma, Peru.

In the last five years Mr Calleja has visited twice to help the poor families of my parish. On November 12 the mayor of Cayma Province, Senor Ulises Torres Mentas Revilla, on the occasion of the 186th anniversary of its foundation, awarded Mr Calleja with a Diploma of Honour to show his appreciation for the Marsascala mayor's commitment to help the poor, the sick, the emarginated and the children of our parish. He praised Mr Calleja's hard work in collaboration with the members of the Missionary Society of St Paul.

During his speech, the Cayma mayor also dwelt on the vital charitable works being carried out by the Missionary Society of St Paul and singled out Fr Alex Busuttil and Fr Victor Livori for their assistance.

I feel that it is my duty to write that Mr Calleja's missionary visits are always fruitful and he makes it a point to assist our elderly, poor, schools and clinics, and supplies medicines and foodstuffs which help us to feed hundreds of people in our parish of La Tomilla. This time, Mr Calleja was accompanied by his friend, Joe Micallef, founder and honorary president of the Philharmonic Society of St Anne. Thanks Joe, for your support.

I take this opportunity to express my thanks to the numerous benefactors who contributed to the success of Mr Calleja's visit, the parishioners of St Anne, the businessmen and, last but not least, Josie Muscat of the St James Group who regaled our clinics with much-needed medical equipment.

May God bless you all.
