Unions request MRA meeting on tariffs
The Ghaqda Trade Unions Maltin has requested a meeting with the Malta Resources Authority to discuss the increase in power tariffs requested by Enemalta.
The request was made in a letter by MUT president John Bencini, who is chairman of the trade union group.
He said the trade unions wanted to know if the regulator would examine whether there were inefficiencies or bad practices at Enemalta; whether the new tariffs would be locked for a year and whether they would be based on hedging. They wanted to know if prices for consumers would be based only on the oil price and whether Enemalta's outlay of €60m on new Smart meters would be included in the new tariffs.
Mr Bencini said the unions would also like to know whether a social impact assessment had been made ahead of the new tariffs, and whether the one time payment to ease the tariffs, announced in the Budget, had been discussed with the MRA.

I have always wondered what Enemalta itself, as a company, is doing to decrease the cost of electricity. Are the bulbs used in street lighting energy saving? Has Enemalta installed photovoltaic cells on its rooftops to convert sunlight into electricity? Or does Enemalta expect all the changes from the consumer without its lifting a finger?

re. Mr. Seychell. For correctness sake. Please note that the GWU is not part of FOR.U.M. The GWU, however has accepted to be part of GHAQDA UNIONS MALTIN. All Unions in Malta have been invited to join.

Knowing that the GWU represents most of the employees of Enemalta, and being the largest Inion of the Foum, it would be interesting to see how Tony Zarb will react when the other Unions will learn that the GWU is still showing intransigence in accepting change in unneccesary Shifts, more flexibility, and that overtime is worked only when really nececcary.
I feel certain that there are also inefficiencies at all other levels, and hope that the EPOU representing the professional sectors in Enemalta will contribute towards more efficieny from its members.
Having stated this I also expect that the senior and top managment, as well as the goverment appointed board of enemalta, will study their own performance since I feel certain that even at the very top level one needs to polish their attitude towards the workers in general, middle managment and their clients - all those using energy .

Here we go again...........meetings,demonstrations, tixjir ta l-idejn ,capcip, weghdi, then comes the one and only ( Dr. Austin Gatt,) and roll on everybody. When are we going to see serious democratic confrontations ? even from the Opposition.
