A man was stunned by a taser gun while trying to resist arrest after he reported an ambulance driver for blocking his driveway, a court heard.

Joseph Zahra, 56, of Zurrieq pleaded not guilty to violently resisting and threatening two police constables on Saturday evening at around 6 p.m. He also denied damaging a police car, disobeying orders, breaching the peace and driving a car without a licence.

The incident arose after Mr Zahra asked an ambulance driver to move the ambulance parked in front of his driveway. After the driver refused, Mr Zahra complained to a police officer, who happened to be in the vicinity, legal sources said. Two police constables from the mobile squad drove up and a taser gun and pepper spray were used on him when he allegedly tried to resist arrest. Magistrate Silvio Meli granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Police Inspectors Arthur Mercieca and Carlos Cordina prosecuted. Dr Leslie Cuschieri appeared for Mr Zahra.
