Jailed for six years for arson, theft

A man was jailed for six years today by an Appeals Court after having been previously given a three-year probation order when he was convicted of damaging festa decorations in Birkirkara, damaging a house and handling stolen property.

The Attorney General had appealed the sentence, saying the judgement of the first court was contradictory and had wrongly interpreted the law.

Anthony Borg of Birkirkara, had originally faced 14 charges which also included damaging seven cars after having set fire to some of them, as well as nine thefts from cars.

Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono upheld all the charges.
