Car stolen after its owner is arrested

A car was stolen by two men shortly after its owner was arrested for allegedly trafficking drugs on Saturday.

Sources said the robbers broke into the car in the afternoon when it was parked in Birżebbuġa after its owner was detained in the morning.

However, the two - a 26-year from Mosta and a 33-year-old from Naxxar - did not manage to get far before they were intercepted by the Drugs Squad, which had meanwhile got wind of the theft.

The car owner was one of five arrested after the squad was informed of drug trafficking activity going on in Birżebbuġa.

The police said their investigations and surveillance eventually identified the source as an apartment belonging to a 35-year-old man, who was arrested together with another 35-year-old man from Marsascala, a 38-year-old from Żabbar, a 27-year-old woman from Paola and a 28-year-old woman from Birżebbuġa.

They said items related to heroin consumption were found in their possession.

Moreover, another six people, whose ages range between 20 and 26 and who live in Attard and Mosta, were caught with cocaine and cannabis resin in Paceville.

Investigations are still ongoing.
