The Google-owned online video sharing website said that it will begin supporting snippets shot in formats as graphics rich as 1,080 pixels next week, a resolution level used in high-definition televisions.
"As resolution of consumer cameras increases, we want to make sure YouTube is the best home on the web to showcase your content," YouTube software engineer Billy Biggs said in a blog post.
"Have an HD camera? We would love to see your awesome 1080p videos! Be creative and choose subjects that really show off the beauty of your camera." YouTube will highlight top HD video snippets on its homepage.
