Shameful behaviour
The arrogance and disrespect shown towards Mgr Anton Gouder and the Church on a recent episode of the television show Xarabank (November 6) was both sad and disgusting.

@ William P Flynn,
Well Sex and curtailing HUnger are regarded as the most primitive wants and I used "overeating" instead of Gluttony for politeness sake, for Gluttony is a indulgement may primitive people follow if they have the chance. In Religion FASTING is advised for many healty reasons.

@Pule Carmel
You mean obesity is a symptom of not following social and religious laws?
@all
I felt it must surely have been a tussle between God and Dagon and that it should have been easy to sort out who was who. But for me it wasn’t. Perhaps someone may write in and explain whether God or Dagon won.
One thing was clear; the desire for control by the grass roots congregation was palpable. Control isn’t something that the Curia yields lightly.
At one point the monsignor wanted chapter and verse as to the people’s ownership of the streets. Careful with that one for the owner will have to repair them.
It seemed to me the rest wouldn’t trust that monsignor further than I can throw a piano and at times his body language seemed as though his foot was under one.

The wisdom of the past shows that, if man does not follow the social and religious laws made through experience of human behaviour, then fighting, stealing, sex and overeating will be amongst the primary instincts followed by the majority of the public.

Xarabank is a complete insult to the people's inteligentia. I would like to know from the Malta Broadcasting Authority if such programmes are monitored from the point of view of a balanced programme. The reason is simple -- a marmalja confronting a church dignitary representing the Archbishop of Malta nd the Diocese. The most important thing for the producers of Xarabank is a programme for 'Cikku l-Poplu' Such programmes are quite cheap to produce.
According to the recent surveys the result is that what the people want. Let the people stoop so low. Viva Malta u l-Festi tal- qaddisin la x-xitan irid hekk.

"Makes this medicine taste even sweeter " "Church is becoming a minority "
What are you talking about ? Do you really think that the church ever approved the drunkenness and rowdiest that goes on during festas?
How very wrong you are. It is the opposite the church is feeling strong enough to call stop to things that the church feel are not right.

Mogr.A. Gouder should have known better not to attend this program which is devoid of any substance. To be frank i pitied him. This should serve as a lesson to others like him to avoid falling into the same trap. Before attending any program one should inquire about it. Example; the composition of the audience, and the panel. He should make it a condition to Peppi that the allocation of time is equally shared, and not to allow any interruptions.

"Do you mind explaining yourself better?"
When the church had the majority behind it , it had no problem showing arrogance and disrespect towards the minority, now that the church is becoming a minority and is at the recieving end of the same arrogance and disrespect by its own suppoters, it has the nerve to claim foul play. What goes around comes around dear DeMartino.

IWaiching Xarabank I asked myself whom did the panel represent? They certainly did not represent any feast organisation. We heard panel members defending an archaic organ or having a buzz in the sake of Christianity. Only one of the panel made his point very clear on what he represented. The audience did the greatest disservice possible to the maltese festa. Judging by their behaviour it would be just to just stop the festas overall. On the occasion Fr Gouder did overwhelmingly well in answering all the attacks thrown at him both personally and as a representative of the Maltese Church. His interventions had the most substance and made most sense. The programme was wisely devoid of representatives from the band clubs. I have become more convinced that the maltese festa needs to re-find its roots in the christian values of celebrating feasts. I hope that the Church will now go on with the consultations and to carry on with the reforms needed so that our feasts are celebrated as a truly christian celebration where ALL the community feels at ease.

so the church is finally getting a taste of its own medicine, and this from its own fanatical supporters who are now also turning against it, makes this medicine taste even sweeter.

The more 'sensational' and controversial the program, the more callers with prize lotteries and sponsors, and that is what really counts – more € s to produce such trash, apart from any other hidden or not so hidden agenda.
I for only watch snippets whilst channel hopping and one should really worry when such trash programs are voted the most popular, though I do suspect that the freebees distributed to the audience and as prices make it popular.
On second thoughts even Jerry Springer productions are popular......
