I would like to draw attention to the deteriorating state of what I believe is the last remaining example of an original third class carriage from the old Maltese railway era. It is situated in the station garden in Birkirkara, on the left-hand side, in front of the old station (this is now a children's nursery).

The carriage is open to the elements and, as most of it is made of wood it is slowly rotting - a great shame. It would be far better to refurbish it and preserve it for future generations to enjoy.

It could take pride of place in a transport museum.

After all, the railway was just as important as the old buses in the progress of public transport in Malta.
